Presented by:

David Merchant, AFPD
Billings, MT

The Office of the Federal Public Defender nationally recognizes David Merchant as an expert in BOP policy and procedure. He is a perennial favorite at conferences around the country, and we are happy to welcome him to Denver.  David will provide insight into how the Bureau of Prison works, particularly regarding placement and classification, as well how they take and process information received from the court, clients and counsel.

With an eye toward improving advocacy, the presentation will include information on what to include and not to include in presentence reports, best methods for providing information to BOP, and how to effectively communicate the needs of clients to the bureaucrats in charge.  Dave will explore common misperceptions and confusion and answer questions you may have about your client actually doing time.
